Model B rod bearings

are there more than one standard size of rod bearings? I went to the local auto parts store for the bearings and when I tighten the rod caps to 35lbs the engine wont turn over. If I loosen the rod caps to just snug it'll turn over. Whats the problem? Wrong bearings?

You need to go to your local NAPA Auto Parts Store and buy Plasti-Gauge. You use the Plasti-Gauge to determine how many shims are required. You can easily make these shims of 0.001 to 0.002 sheet stock (available any auto store). When you cut them, be certain that the shim does not extend to the bearing but only are under the cap. The acceptable clearance is 0.001 to 0.003. Email if you need more instruction or help. I suppose you could use a coke can but I don't know what that metal thickness is. I would wonder what will happen to the ink inside the crank case.

you need to shim the bearing. I called our local dealer when I rebuilt mine to get new shims he told me 3.03 EACH!!!!! !! then said "some dealers have been known to use a cut up beer can" and then said have a good day and hung up sooo thats what I used and it worked great

Been a long long time since I did one but if I remember right there are shims that you need to use to get them just right.
