Fair price for a rim?!

We need to replace the rear rim on an early model Allis C. I called a couple of places today and was quoted the following figures:

Store X: $260.49

Store Y: $120.00

Both prices seem outrageous to me. Granted the rim we need to replace is the older "wedge-type", but I was still only expecting $30-75.

What's out of whack here, these prices or my expectations?

If you can get them for $120 go for it.
I just replaced a pair of rims on my D15, I got them for $500 for the pair.
They are original rims off a D15 with good rubber and hubs, as you can see I stole them for that price. Sometimes you get lucky!

I am afraid you need to get to town more often, you pricing rims with 20 year old money, LOL. Be careful when pricing rims that you are comparing the same type. Lots of people selling parts dont know ding about old tractors. I have seen 3 differnt rims advertised for model C or B tractors. "loop" type is cheapest and often advertised as original but you pitch your wedges and simply run a bolt through the holes in the wheel and through a loop in the rim. Rims that mount like the originals are now being reproduced and are the mid priced ones. Have also seen power adjust rims advertised as fitting a B/C. The are the highest priced and as you probably know, wont fit.

I just looked in a catalog and they list them at $106. And yes its you that is liveing in the past. I haven't seen a new rim sell for $30-40 in I'd say 20 plus years. With the price of steel being up and also the price of gas every thing is getting high. Shoot I haven't even seen a used rim that was in good shape sell for less then $50-75 in years
