I have restored an AC Model B. Now my starter has quit. How can I tell if it is an Autolite or a Delco and does it make any difference.

I have an Autolite starter on my 1948 Allis Chalmers C model. I was able to get the starter rebuilt, works fine now. Just am unable to find a switch to connect to foot pedal. I am currently using a push button that we mounted to the ignition switch post but am hopeful I will find a switch to make it original again. The rebuilder had it fixed in a weeks time.

Make certain all cables and connections are good. Ground problems are epidemic in the 6volt systems. Most tractors had DelcoRemy. Quickest way to check the brand is Auto-Lite has screw driver slot in the 2 through bolts, DR has hex head. Switches and other parts are available for the DR. If you have an Auto-Lite, sorry, try and find a DR replacement.

Doesn't make a differacne unless your tring to get parts for it to fix it. I would pull it off and take it to an auto parts store and have it checked. Most will do that for free. Then you know if it is really bad or not and its not just a battery or cable problem. It could also be a switch problem, I have that problem on my WC speed patorl and the starter switch is going bad
