I bought this 1952 Allis Chalmers CA for a winter project. The barn it was in was flooded 6 years ago and the motor is stuck. I was hoping to free it up and get it running again, then buy a rebuild kit for 400.00 bucks and have fun over the winter cleaning it up a painting the ole girl. Has anyone been through this before? The ole guy that had it before me shot WD -40 in the plug holes 5 years ago but that's about it. I was told Diesel fuel in the plug holes and work with it everyday for a week or two and see if that frees it up. Drain all the fluids and replace then give it shot...any thoughts?

Put the tractor outside, remove the head, fill each cylinder with about 1/2 inch of brake fluid, put a match to each cylinder, and let it burn over night. Should losen right up. Always worked for me.

Hey guys thanks for repling. I will try putting tranny fluid in through the plug holes. I will need to get a battery and replace battery box, no big deal thats part of the fun. As far as freeing it up you are all correct I should dump all fluids first and replace with clean. I ordered a owners manual for it so I am not sure of what fluids to buy...can you help with that.

I also wanted to mention I don't have the crank for the front so would rocking the tractor while in gear allow me to see if it has broke free yet? I will look for one on several of the sites available for parts.
If I try and use the starter with out freeing it up I would be afraid something else could happen.

I've tried the rocking the tractor to free them up before and it just plain doesn't work. If you use the starter you apply a lot more torque then you can by rocking it and I have never hurt any thing doing so as long as you just hit and the releace the starter button. What cause something to get hurt is holding the button or haveing the plugs in when it pops free. Short fast hits of the button works well just watch the pulley when your doing it and hit it say 5 times then let it sit 5 minutes to let the starter cool down. 50% of the tractor I buy are locked up and I have gooten all but one freed up by doing what I have said and never hurt any thing doing it that way

You said flooded. If the engine or any other part of the drive gear(trans,final drive etc)was under water enough to get floodwater in through any vents, filler pipes, seals, anywhere, safest would be to not move it until you're sure no contamination. Floodwater contains fine dirt and grit, anywhere water got in could be rusted or gritty. Drop pan if possible, if has inspection ports in side of block shine in strong light (works best at night). Remember any bolts,screws under water may be rusted in threads, treat as severly rusted bolts, you don't want to be drilling out a bunch of bolts if the heads twist off. Good luck.

In the event that you can't use the starter or think it's too abrasive, you can pour the tranny fluid in the cylinders for about a week and then put the crank on the tractor and don't "spin" it, just put some weight on it and see if it will turn at all. It'll tell you really fast if it's stuck or not.

First thing I would do it blow out all the cylinders, then fill them with tranny fluid and let it sit a few days and give the starter a try, just do short fast hits of the starter and watch the crank shaft pulley to see if it moves any. If it moves then pull the plugs and keep tring and it will probably brake free. If it doesn't in say 2 weeks then top the tranny fluid off with turpentine and wait a few days and try the starter again. If that doesn't work you will have to pull the head and do other things to get it loose. So far doing what I say has worked for me on 9 out or 10 engines. Also drain all fluid in it now and fill with something like diesel fluid so that things get clean in the bottom of the engine. In the engine oil pan fill it to the point you can't put any more in so the crank etc has diesel on it
