Thanks,

The first thing I would check are the shifting forks in the tranny. It is possible that one is bent or worn out. Those are a lot easier and cheaper than the new gears. If the forks are still good, it will probably need a new year and shifting collor and then all the seals in the tranny. If you end up having to go into the tranny, I would just bite the bullet and replace the seals while I am in there, even the ones you don't disturb with the repair, since knowing you have good seals and not having the worry about doing a repair later is nicer than having to split it 2 times. From what I heard from the AGCO dealer, they can get you cheaper china made aftermarket gears, or they can get you the heavier made AGCO gears, which are about double the price of the china gears, but supposedly hold up better?? I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck with it. Also, make sure you check your final drive level and differential level, I had the pinion shaft seals go out on my 7000 that I bought used most likely because it sat around for a while without being used (for a while meaning probably more than a year). Good luck

I asume this means splitting the tractor if I have to replace gears. Will have to track down a repair manual somewhere, tractor has a cab, sounds like a winter project. Thanks for the input.

To replace the transmission gears, you have to split it at the front of the transmission and then Pull the axles and the diferential out. The pinion gear is also the transmission mainshaft.
Definitly get a manual for this one.

If you have to replace the gears, it does mean splitting the tractor at the torque tube and tranny; I believe that is the only place. The cab should not be too much of a problem. If it has A/C and is like my 7000, allis designed it so the A/C is only hooked to the cab, meaning when u split the tractor, one can take the compressor and evaporator loose and roll them up and put them in the cab. I would definatively get a repair manual, u will probably have to redo all the preloads on the bearings in the tranny since you are putting on new gears. But check the forks first and give it a good visual inspection. It could the the forks or it may also be the shifter plate (detents worn, not engaging the gear all the way, etc) Good luck
