D-17 runs away

Hi, I was wondering if any one could help me. When I start my D17, I have to hold the throttle all the way back to start and when you go to give it any gas at all, it revs wide open and then dies. I don't know if it would be the carb. or the govenor or how to check which it would be. Any help at all would be gratly appreciated. Thanks!

It is related to the govenor. Check all the linkages from the throttle all the way to the carb. Your spring could be broken, linkage unhooked or the weights could be broken.

Thanks. I checked the linkage and it seems fine. the weights have been replaced pretty recently. I'm not sure where the spring is that you're talking about. Is it in the govener, or somewhere outside? also, doyou or anyone else have an idea why it dies right away after revving up? thanks for any and all info.
