Hi, for a one wire, negative ground, 12 volt hook up on your tractor use at least a number 10 (or larger) stranded copper wire from the output terminal on the alternator to the terminal on the starter that the battery cable to the positive terminal of the battery is connected to. You can also go directly to the positive battery terminal if you want to, but the starter terminal makes a neater job. If you have an ammeter and want to use it, the wire from the alternator output terminal should go to one terminal of the ammeter and another wire should go from the other terminal of the ammeter to the starter terminal. The hot side of circuits for lights, ignition and other electrical demands should be hooked to the starter terminal if you do not use an ammeter, or if you ues an ammeter - to the alternator terminal of the ammeter that the wire from the alternator is attacher to. You can use a seperate, different terminal block of course, but, it is not necessary and is not as neat. The wires fot the hot side of each circuit go to the switch for each respective circuit. The wire from each switch then goes to the item that it controls. Check your alternator output rating (amps), if it is over 40 amps use a larger wire - 8 gage. If it over 60 amps use an even larger wire - 6 gage. You also may want to (or have to) replace the fan and alternator belt; for two reasons. The belt must fit the width of the pulleys. (You also may have to adjust the width of the pulley on the water pump. If the V-belt bottoms out in a "too wide" pulley groove it will slip, not turn the fan properly, and wear out very fast) You may also want to get an "extreme service" belt rather than just a "fan belt". The type available for ridding lawn mowers are handy and have a "severe service" rating. if you can get one the proper lenth and width. Remember that the 6 volt generator was only 15 amps. The alternator is probably 60 or more amps and 12 volts (about 8 times the power and about 8 times the pull on the V-belt). If you use an ammeter and when you are all done, the ammeter should read discharge with the engine off and the lights (and other stuff) on. It should read charging with the engine running and all the other stuff off. If it reads backwards, just reverse the hook up to the two ammeter terminals. Hope this is of some help.
