I'm crossposting this from another board for an aquaintnce... any info I can take back to him is appreciated.. I'm not familiar with this tractor.. etc..

i'm needing new hydraulic cylinders for a d17 IV. they're leaking and it's going to be cheaper to buy new ones than to have them rebuilt. what i need to know is the length of stroke. they're already off the tractor so i can't extend them. thanks for any help.

I don't understand why he can't extend them. Air works well for doing that or a com-a-long and a tree and tractor also work well. Maybe I'm missing some thing on this one

I might be ignorant to the situation but I don't understand how it could be cheaper to buy new ones then to rebuild them...the rod is scratched very deep? can't find new packing and seals? I had a case backhoe that had an outrigger rod gouged, I filed around the edge of the gouge and put new packing and seals in it and it lasted for years (around 9 years of like 8 hours use about 3 or 4 times a week)...with very little oil coming out each time the gouge came out of the cylinder....yeah I know...a little dirt going into it as the rod goes back in...
