If I look for a loader for a D17 series 1. Will the hydraulics on tractor work to operate the hydraulic bucket and the loader? Or will I need to get a PTO pump?

Appreciate your help with this.

Dave

The integral system of the tractor is fine for a trip bucket loader. If you want a hydraulic bucket, you are better off to add a front-mount pump- then you have independent hydraulics for the loader. You could add a double valve to the integral system, hooked into the tractor remote, and operate a boom with hydraulic bucket, but it would be a Disney setup. (Kind of mickey-mouse). Bottom line is how many dollars you want to spend for what kind of benefit- pto pump will work, but you'll have live, not independent hydraulics via the hand clutch. Later series D17s had a front crankshaft pulley that was machined and tapped to mount a hydraulic pump- I don't know if series I had that pulley. Look at the pulley- does it have a flat machined surface with two tapped holes in it? Then you can bolt on a plate/shaft- to drive a front mount pump. Maybe you can switch pulleys with a later series to get that. Remember to match pressure of the pump to pressure of the loader cylinders, or you either blow seals, or get slow raise.

I have seen a D-17 series 1 with a loader that has the 2 way rams for the loader it self and the 2 way rams for the bucket BUT the tractor had a hydralic pump on the front of the tractor. it still had the single way rear hydralic coupler available for use other than the loader. all in a nutshell you would need to run a pump off the engin to have a double acting cylinder for the bucket and the loader.

i have a series 1 17 with loader and it runs off tractors pump...main rams are single action and i have a 2 way cylinder to dump loader...i was going to upgrade to a heavier loader and was told i'd need a front pump to run a modern full hydraulic loader...pto pump would work too.

I had a D-17 series 1 with a loader and it ran off the hyds on the tractor. The only problem is that when you push the clutch pedel down you will loose power to the hyds
