distributor question hold position valve question

I think I finally timed the distributor right. I think I found TDC and then placed the distributor in the housing with the rotor pointing opposite primary lead terminal. I then rotated the body until the points just opened. The primary lead terminal is no longer pointing directly to the rear of the tractor. Is this ok? The rotor and the lug on the cap appear lined up at TDC now, that is what I was concerned about. Did I do things right?

Also, I was installing new hydraulic hoses to the rams. I was tightening one hose down on the elbow on the right side of the hold position valve and the elbow just broke off at the side of the valve, leaving a threaded piece of the elbow stuck in the valve. I have tried screw extractors and such, but with no luck. The metal of the fitting appears soft and is stripped extremely easily. I was wondering if it is ok to heat the valve near the broken fitting. Should I remove the internal workings of the valve first?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

On a distubutor it doesn't really make any differance which nipple is used as #1 as long as its set to open the points at the right time. Or in other words the #1 on the cap can be any of them as long as its in time wiht the rest of the engine. As far as that pipe my self I wouldn't heat it but I would use my E-Z out set but I also have a high $$ set of them and they have always worked for me so far
