Alliis B starting problem , runs and quits

This problem started back a while. when the tractor got hot it would quit. I thought iot was the mag so replaced the coil , points, cond. well now it starts for about 30 sec and shuts down. You can do this all day. I did clean the carb out but it looked ok. What am I missing. I put a spark tester on the plug wire and you get a skarp while the engine is spinning. A cracked intake? The engine sounds like it runs out of gas. what would cause this. this tractor always ran sweet.

well thanks to all I got the old girl running it had a plugged main jet . it looked clean then I ran safty wire through it and some junk came out. Now I need to fix the rpm fluxing up and down thanks again guys. mike

Mike I had a similiar problem with my d-17. The fuel tank outlet was partialy plugged. The tractor would start and run on the gas from the sediment bowl,then quit. I gave it a shot of compressed air back into the tank and have not had any more problems.

mike, i just drove home a B. this guy said it was the points. BUT like RandyN said was what it was. i went there the next day and hooked up the battery and it started so fast it made me jump. then it stalled. took the line off and it was full of bugs spiders and rust. cleaned it out and i got to the driveway, and it stallwed. took the line off and it was clean. took the pitcock (or whatever ya call it) off and MAN it was packed. cleaned it out and started down the road stalled went and got 4 gals of gold and it took me all the way home.(about two miles). i took the tank off and flused it with gas and cleaned everything leading to the carb (including the carb) now it runs great. BUT it KNOCKS hope all this bull will help. oh i've used that redcoat on a c gas tank. i do like it. the stuff is nasty hard once set up. good shii.

Your first comment sounds correct...if it is quitting when it gets hot, then coil and/or condensor are often the culprit.

However, with what you say and the experiences I've had...it sure sounds like particles are getting into the carb. It really doesn't take much to plug up those jets. I had an Allis C that would run awful and then quit and not start...let it set...start for about 30 seconds then quit.

Many people will install an in-line filter. I don't like looking at those things but they can make a big difference if you have loose particles getting into the gas.

I like to give the gas tank a good cleaning, along with the carburetor. I like to use the fuel bowls that are intended for the Fords with the raised intake pipe and the screen around the intake. You can also make your own raised intake pipe on the fuel bowl, too.

Some people like to line their gas tanks. I dont' know how long those lining lasts before they start peeling off.
