wd-45 not starting

I have a wd45 just off the trailer that I bought. Couldn't get it to start so I took some time and converted to a 12volt system for more starter power and wanting to use around the farm. It spins the starter much better but still does not start. I put a new distributor cap, plug wires, plugs, 12 volt coil to the engine. New fuel bowl, fuel line. However, even the though the starter is spinning well I still do not seem to be getting spark to the plugs and the carberator is flooding severly. Lastly can someone tell me what kind of hose fits the air breather which is a big inlet and then goes to the carb inlet which seems smaller. The carb says Zenith on it, is that original? I still can not find a serial number, where would that be, is it a plate or cast stamp. Would appreciate all feedback so that we can get a running.

Factory carb on a WD45 was a Marvel-Schebler, not the Zenith. Engine needed more gas to make more power, thus the larger carb. Jets are bigger. Fuel (flooding) and spark are two separate issues. Flooding usually means dirt in the carb inlet, good cleaning (maybe boiling), and a rebuild kit should solve that. Follow measurement instructions when you set the float. Serial number of the tractor is located on the left rear vertical face of the differential, starts with WD..... ...WD45 starts at 146007 in 1953.

Well it probably needs new points and condenser and also when you replace the cap you should also replace the rotor, I've seen rotors go bad and cause that problem also. The serial number is on the rear end houseing, left side I think. Walk up to it from behind and it well be about knee high give or take a little. Aslo if the engine has a plate on the right side that is bolted on you probably have a WD not a WD45. The WD45 doesn't have that plate on the right side of the engine, or should I say the WD45 eingine doesn't have that plate but either engine will bolt right in to them
