Finally found a speed patrol last weekend with the help of an old friend. Got it home and can't find any info on it. I know it's a WC but would like to find out how many they made. The serial numbers suggest about 3700 but I didn't know if they had a break or other tractors mixed in the ser. number range. Also there is an auxiliary transmission behind the tractor transmission. Mine will only move when the lever is up. Is there supposed to be a slower or faster range in the lower lever position? Any other info would also be appreciated. Would also like to find a W Patrol operators manual. Thanks for any help.

You do not have an extra transmission- that is a throwout lever that is used to disconnect the tractor rear end. It was used on rowcrop tractors to allow raising the cultivator with the mechanical lift without driving the tractor forward- ie, when getting stuck in mud, getting too close to a fencerow, etc. It is simply a sliding collar that moves forward and rearward when engaging the lever. No extra gears involved. Can be retrofitted on earlier WC, RC tractors that came without them. Flat plate forward of the lever assembly is where the mechanical lift would mount. Throwout was also hany when baling with the AC Roto-Baler- faster to stop wheel motion to let the baler run the string on the bale.

Look in Norm Swinfords AC Construction Machinery book - though I think its also buried in his AC Farm Equipment 1914-1985. Books show 1E1 (1940) thru 1E678 made in Laporte stopping in 1942 then restarted in Springfield 1945 with 1E681 ending at 1E3753 in 1950. These numbers will be on a plate riveted to right side of frame rail - early tractors on front extension, late about at engine station. Books say later were 1F prefix but I have never seen a 1F - think its an error as I have verified 1E2553 and 1E3005

I restored/fixed one of them up last year. Nice little toys to grade a road with and I still use the one I have. Pictures on my web site of it and if I can help just ask. I have had this one for more then 10 years now
