I put a new head on my 48 C and adjusted the valves, put it all back together and it ran great, I use the hand crank to start it but now that is almost immpossible. I have to jump or pull start and then it runs great until I start to move, it stalls right out, sometimes it puffs out some black smoke. Does this sound like the carb or maybe the vales need readjusting?

did you returque the head after you ran if for an hour or so till it was warm?? If not that could be your problem Also you may need to recheck the valves you may have set them to tight. I prefer to set them a litte on the loose side its always better to have them rattle a little then to have them to tight. You also said something aboput black smoke so your crab maybe running a little to rich, so you might need to check the aircleaner to make sure its clean etc
