I apprecaite the advice on the governor, guys (tractor idles fine but when you put it in gear to go it wants to take off like a rocket and won't back down unless you shut it off). I tinkered with it this weekend and I could not find any springs as mentioned - nothing at the front of the tractor near the governor and nothing at the carb (it has a Zenith replacement carb). I also noticed that on the governor linkage on the right side about center on the tractor (near where the light wiring goes) there appears to be a place where a spring goes. May be my imagination.

Shop manual barely mentions the governor. Anyone have a picture of these springs and the configuration? Not sure where to go from here...

Thanks!

Ok I jsut went out and looked both my WDS over and heres what I found and maybe if you try this you might find where your problem is. There is only one spring in the trottle/gov linkage and its at the trottle pivot which would probably not help or hurt your problem. Take and with the engine off set the trottle at idel and then grab the rod on the left side going to the carb trottle butterfly. Try to push it forward towards the radiator. When you do that does it push back and if you let it go does it close the trottle butterfly?? If it doesn't push back hard and then close the butterfly you have problems inside you govanor and you will need to remove the govanor and have a look see to find your problem. You may have broken springs and or broken parts in side of it. Hope this helps you some. Feel free to post back with more question, I have a spare govanor of 2 I can look at and maybe even take a picture of if need be

With out going out and looking at my WDs I can't say for sure where/how the springs are hooked up but you should have a spring or 2 that you can see in the linkage from the carb to the gov. and if you don't that could well be your problem. I'll go out and look in a little bit and see if I can explain how they are hooked up. I don't think they would show up if I took a picture.
