The engine oil leaks once the tractor gets hot from the hole on the bottom where the engine bolts up, is this the rear seal leaking?

It could be hydraulic fluid also. That would be the seal on the clutch shaft.

Make sure if you replace the rear main seal that you also replace the wear ring. I would measure the protrusion of the seal from the rear adaptor plate and set the new seal really close to that. When you replace the wear ring on the flywheel, you will need to put a drop of loctite 515 (I think that is the right number, the instructions in the wear ring bad that I got had all the information on installing the wear ring) on the wear ring before you take it off. To get the wear ring off, if you cannot just pry it off, take a chisel and hit in about 6 ot 7 places 1 or 2 times (don't want to cut through in order to prevent damaging hte flywheel) so that it will stretch the ring and then it should easily pry off of the flywheel. To install the new one, a press is best, but I got mine of carefully hammering a 4x4 on top of it and keeping a close eye on it. I would check the other things first. Your 185 probably is not as bad as my 7000 (the A/C for the cab was a hassle), but it probably will not be "fun" to split by no means. E-mail me if you have any questions on replacing the seal on a 301.
