A B without hand brakes? I honestly didn't know there was such a creature. I just learned something else new. I've never seen one with foot brakes, but then I always just assumed that they all had hand brakes. Now I'm gonna have to look when I run across others. I can't screwup turning with hand brakes, but from time to time, I mash the wrong or both foot brake pedals at the same time on other tractors, or get back onto the B and go to stomp a foot brake pedal that aint there. It just happens, I guess.

Jerry can you narrow it down a little more? I have a B with hand brakes and has electric starter. Was wondering the first year for electric starter. Thank you.

Marvin, the only clue I can find in the parts book indicates the governor control rod was changed at B43220 to clear the battery for electric starting. That would be during the 1940 production year. I presume that was when AC began using a torque tube with a starter hole and generator mounting bosses on side of the engine. There were a number of older units which were retrofitted to provide for electric starting, I have the torque tube from one of those earlier ones and I plan to use it for a grinder pedestal.

The B had hand brakes prior to serial # B52718. That indicates the change was made during the 1941 model year.
