Where I'm at on the old WD...

Okay, so far I've:

1. Put on a new waterpump
2. Replaced both radiator hoses
3. Rebuilt carbureator
4. Replaced air filter/carbureator bypass hose
5. Cleaned air filter
6. Changed oil & oil filter
7. Flushed fuel lines
8. Cleaned the gas tank
9. Cleaned the points
10. Replaced a bad front tire
11. Installed 4 new spark plugs
12. Installed a new battery
13. "Unstuck" the starter switch
14. Lubricated various parts (clutch, brakes, etc.)
15. Adjusted brakes

Of course, the thing won't turn over, but I feel confident that I'm near getting it to run. Looking at picking up a new cap, rotor, points, and condenser and trying that. If that fails, then I will see if the needle valve/float assembly is stuck in the carbureator again.

Anybody have any suggestions on top of that of what I might do or have done, while I'm working on it?

emblymouse - Good luck to you, then! Beware gas tanks full of black gunk, because clogged fuel lines and carbureators come with that.

old - I sanded the points and reset them with a matchbook cover and then I had that suggested to me, and that is next on my list of things to try.

Hi Will, I'm just beginning my WD rebuild. A 51.I feel better having read your post because mine runs! Currently replacing hoses and thermostat, next will be the gas tank and carb so maybe I can pick your brain when I get there.

Sort of need to define what your saying before I can add more. You say won't turn over whci to me says the engine will not turn as in the starter isn't working. But I'll go out on a lim and think your saying it turns over but doesn't start which could still be points condenser, cap and rotor problems.

Yes, my bad. The engine turns over, it just won"t start. I"m unsure if the carbureator is still not letting the proper gas into the engine or if I"m not getting any spark to ignite it (or both). But I"ll soon work it down!

Checking the spark is very easy. Pull the coil wire at the cap and hold it about 1/4 inch from the engine and turn it over with it turned on. No spark then you ave problems in the distubutor area, if you have spark you have carb problem.
