Would this be a viable project tractor?

My neighbor offered me this old Allis C that's been sitting in one of his outbuildings for 15+ years. The tractor was not frozen when he parked it, but it has since frozen up solid. It has never sat outside, so I'm hoping its nothing serious.

Most of everything looks to be there. The mag isn't there at the moment, but he says he has one that might work.

As this picture shows, it will have to be dug out of the trash before any close inspection can take place. I can't get to the SN because of a bunch of old cabinets and an angry nest of hornets.

This can't possible be an original seat. It's as wide as a four-lane highway!

So what do you guys think? Would this be a viable restoration tractor? I went ahead and filled the cylinders with WD-40 this evening, just in case I decide to go ahead with the project.

If you are looking for a project, go for it!!!!! !
The first tractor I restored had been laying on its side , busted up and rusty, for over 10 years. I restored it, learnt a lot, and had alot of fun doing it,,,,, ,,,,,

What's the attachment on it? Plow, mower? I see only one lever so it can't be a cultivator? Tires look better than the one I'm trying to get from a neighbor- they are skins. He hasn't come up with a price yet, but you're looking at something that's almost complete. Stuck engine is not all that bad- but like old says, get something better in it than WD40. Even the original stuff wasn't all that good for loosening pistons.

The big question is the asking price. If it's free or under $100-. May be - perhaps go for it.

Magnetos get expensive if one the owner has doesn't work. Then there is the expense of working on the engine. You can easily put over $1000- in this tractor just to get it in working shape.

You may be better purchasing a running tractor. Hate to be a wet blanket.

Your decision.

That is the correct seat! It looks like it has hydraulics and electric start. If so, those are definite pluses. I say go for it!

Sorry to say I don't agree with your choice of what you filled the cylinder with. It may work but you would have been better off filling them with tranny fluid. There not bad little pain in the ___ tractors I have 1 in good running shape and 2 for parts so if you find you need parts I have them. If I where you I would blow out the WD and replace it with tranny fluid worked better and cost less and I have been freeing up engines on tractors for many years and have tried almost all the stuff and have found tranny fluid to be the best for the $$.

Sawyour post in the N board and you know I will not answer down there but since you posted this up here I can sort of answer you. I have a good gas tank from a 2N that I would sell. E-mail is open

i have also seen kroil used in instances on hit & miss engines where the iron piston was indistinguishable from the bore.

Looks to me like you could get that thing to run again. And it'd look really nice all fixed up.

That's a good little tractor to have. Parts are available from salvage, they are easy to work on, not too heavy to disassemble. That seat is an original. We have a "B" with the same seat. Check EBay for parts information. You will see many parts there. Many parts for the "B", "C", and "CA" are interchangeable.

looks like a good project to me! parts are available & cheap. they are easy to work on, too.
that is the right seat. i have an aftermarket pan seat on a b, it sucks. i believe it is a bostrum seat. it is coming off soon!
