Allis Chalmers B wheel axel assembly

I have model B year unknown, my problem the axel
spins in the wheel hub, the axel itself has splines but the inside of the wheel hub looks to be too smooth to engage the axel. When I took the wheel off there were several pieces of arrow shaped metal in the axel splines. Is my wheel hub stripped or do I need some sort of shims? Thank you Bud

Just get another wheel. Check it carefully to be sure your axle splines are not also worn so much so as to prevent a good tight fit. You might also have to replace the axle.

If the inside of the hub is almost smooth, don't even mess with it. Find another one that's in good condition and throw yours away.

If you find you need a good used axle let me know I have a pair of Cs for parts and those parts should be the same.

Sounds as if the hub is stripped out. I once worked on one that had loose hub, but usable splines remaining. Purists might protest, but I ground off a bit of the back of the hub to let it go up on the splines further. It has worked well so far. Keep those hub nuts tight.

You could supplement that with Loctite Retaining compound (the Green loctite). If you clean it well, have a good close fit, and use the proper primer, you will get it so it is almost as good as welding. But if you ever want to get it off, you must heat it to about 325 degrees F.
