Hey Guys,

I am going to start my second tractor restoration shortly ( if my buddy ever gets around to trailering down to me)on a 1951 WD. My previous tractor was a red one,1950H. The WD does not have a starter, only hand crank, 6 volt, magneto. How much trouble is is it, parts and labor wise to wire for electric start?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ross

Yep, like Butch said, what you got there is most likely a WC. Follow his advice and find another tractor with all of the parts you will need and go to work.

First off if the tractor is not equipped for electric start it is not a WD and it is not 1951, probably a WC and pre 1947. Not sure how to answer your question? You need lots of parts and takes lots of labor including splitting the tractor. You need a battery, a box to house it, a generator, a place to mount it and a belt to drive it and you need a starter, a place to mount it ( a starter bell housing) and a ring gear on the flywheel. All of this must be connected with wires, like you didnt know that. All in all you you be better served by finding an electric start WC and removing what you need or fixing the electric start WC and using the hand start one for parts as they are usualy dirt cheap.
