I"m replacing the woodruff key on my C crank pulley. I removed the hood, radiator cowl/grill, radiator...the pulley is not stuck on the shaft but it will not come all the way off because there"s not enough clearance in the "dip" the pulley sits in. Looks like I need about another 3/4" to get it off the shaft. Is there something I"m missing here or will I have to remove the front wheel assembly out some to get the clearance? If there"s an easier way please let me know. Thanks,

You will have to remove the front casting. You may need more than just for replacing the key if you can slide it off with your hands. Loctite makes a product that after the key is in place that you can use on the end of the crankshaft to hold the pully in place. You will need room to hold the pully square while it sets up.

I'm not sure if I'm clear on applying the Loctite product...do I apply the Loctite in front of the pulley or between the pulley and crankshaft? ..and any process in holding the pulley square..is that holding the pulley face level?...and how far back on the shaft do I set the pulley?

It is a thick liquid like their thread lock. It would go under the pully on the crank shaft. You would run several beads the length of the crankshaft where the pully will set. Smooth it some with you finger. Coat the inside of the pully with your finger as well. When the pully is in place clean off any access. It is a lot like gluing a chair leg back on. We used it on a bearing that had spun inside of a fork truck transmission where you could wiggle the bearing around in the case. We put the loctite on both surfaces, shimmed the bearing in four places with little strips and let it set over night. It never gave another problem in years of use. Was years ago and you will have to look up the Loctite number. They might have it in a stick form now. They do the thread lock.

Dick,
I checked out Loctite's web site and they show the Loctite 680 to be the stuff for pulley. Our local Napa carrys it. Thanks for the info.
