I found about 3/4ths of an AC 40 today back in some trees. It is a cute little combine! The separator area and header are all intact minus the top of the turtle shell and the un-crushed grain tank stamped with AC laying near by. Guts are all inside including some good looking sieves. unclean grain elevator is still attached and unloading auger there too, but no clean grain elevator, the back is there unbent but seperated from the rest of it. Most of the pulleys are on it but belts long gone. Even the header snouts and reel support are complete and not bent up. It is sunk down in the dirt about 4 inches. The biggest mystery is I Cant find any sign of the hitch, wheels or frame.

This would be a really cool combine to put together. What in the world should I do with it. Its rusty but not a loss. It would need a donor or fabrication of missing parts.

The 40 was only built 3 years, between 38 and 40.

restoring this thing is above my time availability and resources but it would be a really cool toy!

anybody interested in a trading deal, this for a complete 60 or 66 in workable but unrestored condition? or buying outright?

Are you looking for a complete AC model 66? I have one that was last used in 1990 by my grandfather, worked very well then. Canvas's have since gone bad, but that is all. Belts, chains, and everything else is all on it. If interested, give a holler and make an offer. I'm cleaning up the farm, and this is on the list to get scrapped out when I get time if there is no interest in it before. North Central MN.

I agree with wilman, you should try and save it.I"m sure someone can use something there to save theirs.We have one here in Maine thats a bagger model #40.We got it from an old Allis Dealer , who wanted to see it restored.He has since passed away, and we still don"t have enough parts to make one.I do know a guy who has one that has been used in the last few years, and I think that may be the best way to get one.Thanks Rick

By all means try and rescue it from where it is and then worry about what to do with it. Can you get some pictures of what is there? Where abouts are you at? Does the ND stand for North Dakota? I would be interested but that might be a tad far for me to go.

Yes, the ND does stand for North Dakota : )

The combine is in rural NE north dakota.

What is there is small enough I think it would set in the back of a bigger pickup (no frame to the combine)facing backwards - header out the back. and leftovers piled on top. or set on a snowmobile trailer.

I never would have guessed there would be one up here in big country. I guess an old bachelor farmer ran a whole quarter with it behind a B Farmall.

Yea, your way up dar eh :-))

Would be a long ways for me to travel for it and I am in NE Iowa. I am sure some one would be interested in it though. There were 2 40's that just sold around here. One at a highly advertised collectors sale went for $2200 and the other, better one at a not so highly advertised sale went for $700. I think both of them would be in working order again with just a little fixing and tinkering. Sounds like yours might take a little more than that.

Yes, this one would need quite a bit more than that. It would need a whole frame fabricated. The top "walker" that appears to be wooden is toast. need to find or make a clean grain elevator..... this thing has been laying out there for 20+. Tree has fallen over it but not hit it.

I'll probably dig it out though and take good pictures of it. Its on my boss's farm, he kind of wants to load up all the iron. Ive been resurrecting some as I can, pulled out a model S JD disc and reparied it, and built a 6 x 12 trailer out of an old rock picker for myself. There is a G4 MM down the road I think I can trade for or get for nothing, at least it is complete. might be a Case 75? too.

It won't get thrown out at any rate, I'll stash it somewhere and put it up on fenceposts or something.

might be good parts for somebody's though. My parents live in NW IA. might be able to move it part way for you if you need a parts machine or something.
