I"m trying to find out the basic dimensions for building my on seat frame and backrest supports. What size was the original angle iron for seat frame? What size is the flat bar that supports the backrest? Thanks, Rob

Don't try to make your own seat back supports, unless you know how to make springs by hand. They are made out of spring steel. I sppose if you are desperate you could make them out of an old spring leaf from a car or truck, but it would be a tough job. Just find some used ones, it's not that hard. Old is probably right about just buying used, but he wasn"t around when I needed him. In case you decide to make your own, the original steel is 3 3/8 x 0.135 for the seat frame and the uprights for the back are 1 1/2 x 0.315. The curves for the back braces are a little complicated. You will need an old one for a pattern. Unfortunately, the drawings are MIA. Sorry.

For what it would cost to have one made why not buy a good used one?? I know there not all that hard to find. Shoot I even have one for sale

I had to have the angles bent at a local metal shop for my seat frame. I can"t seem to find the drawings, but will get you some measurements and e-mail tomorrow. I could not find a standard angle iron that would sub for the standard seat frame, but I had enough solid material left on mine to use as a pattern and duplication including hole punching was very reasonable as I recall.

That is what I did also. The place I buy small pices of steel has press brakes. I had them cut and bend up two sets. They had the same bend as the old ones just taller. The taller angles makes a big difference to us tall fellers. Keeps the knees out of the chest. Should help the short fellers also as you dont have your hands above your shoulders as you do with the short seat side angles
