Monday night my son and I went to a local tractor show which had many John Deere and Allis tractors. There was a 4wd 440 there. What is the horsepower and weight of that tractor? What years was it made?

Thanks, Glenn G.

Yep on all above accounts. I've got an AC 440 and a Steiger bearcat II. 440 has a 555 Cummins, BC has a 3208 cat. BC has spindle axles, 440 has outer planetaries. Both cabs have exact same layout, sticker placement, control placement, etc. 440 was a monster in its day.

My source says that the 440 was a repainted Steiger Bearcat.

I was wondering about that. How much of it is really Allis?

allis chalmers contracted steiger for the 440, the cab and fenders give this tractor away. The 440 is a Bearcat I model steiger w/ ac orange paint and decals. As a huge Steiger fan and a moderate AC fan i'd love to be able to find one of these beasts. Below is the site that can be viewed in regards to the 440

The only book I have with any reference to it says the 1974 model used a 555 cubic inch Cummins V-8. Nothing on weight, hp, or anything else. That's from Wendell's AC Story.
