Allis B - Good buy?

They"re asking $1,000.00 Bad, good, or great deal?

We have old Allis"s that I"ve grown up with...WD"s and CA"s mainly...but they"ve been in the family long enough that I"ve not ever bought one. Any thoughts??

overall looks pretty good, paint job is amateurish and the sheetmetal is far from perfect, would just be a good usable tractor. Woods belly mower is in great shape.

I'd ask you first about what your intentions are for the tractor, but as you described it, that price sounds about right with the belly mower. It might go for a little less.

We own a C that we bought 4 years ago with a belly mower, parts to a cultivator, drawbar, plow, and some assorted parts thrown in for good measure for $1500 for use on our 10 acres that we mow, and plant a couple of acres for fall crops (broomcorn, Indian corn, pumpkins, etc.) It is a rugged little, dependable tractor though there are some limitations that you have to be aware of and adjust too.

There are several B's in the neighborhood (we live in a region of orchards, market vegetables and vineyards), and our neighbors use them for mowing between the trees, hauling around wagons, etc; so within the limits of the tractor, it will make a good, dependable, relatively easy to maintain source of power.

Bottom line is, my thoughts are that it doesn't sound like a bad deal.

As for my intentions for the tractor... as I menitioned, I grew up around the old WD, which along with a few garden tractors powered a 15-acre truck gardening and greenhouse operation on our 65-acre farm that our farmily ran when I was younger. I am now 19. Dad and I still enjoy farming with the WD and a couple of old Wheel Horse garden tractors, growing such things as syrup sorghum cane for sorghum molasses, pumpkins, gourds, squash, etc.

If I bought this B we would use it as-is for some light harrowing and cultivating, mowing, and moving trailers around the farm. If it looked like I could fix a couple cosmetic things on it and get more out of it than I spent, I"d fix it and sell it in September, when the 12th annual Power of the Past tractor and engine show is held in nearby Ottawa, Kansas. Great show if you"re up for the drive, fills up 50 acres of forest park with antique tractors, rock crushing, hay baling, garden tractor pulls, free ham and bean feed, and a swap meet.

Have to do some thinking and looking, may bring the B home...

That B keeps looking better and better...I've only seen it from the road and talked to the owner on the phone...may just have to go have a look this afternoon!
