Air cleaner inlet cap

While working on my air cleaner inlet cap I noticed that it had black paint under what was left of the orange. I see from looking in my AC books that a very few pictures have black caps. Does anyone know if black was the factory color here? Maybe they just got painted orange as the tractors were repainted. I am leaning towards black just to be different anyway.

Thanks for your answers. I guess it should be orange. But I think to be different I will make it black. Never mind the correct police. It is a small thing anwyay.

Donaldson made the air/cleaners that AC used. They were painted black when new. I'm sure that they were painted Orange along w/the rest of the tractor. I have a new Don...aircleaner for a WC,WD,or WD45 and it is painted black. Good luck.....

The factory color was orange (for original purposes)...AC was famous for hosing everything down with Persian Orange...even the mag and plug wires. But I like mine with the mag, gen, plugs, wires, etc unpainted...and my rear wheels are silver...the fronts are orange. I hosed my muffler down with black grill paint...I like that too.
