First af all thanks to all for your help over the past weeks.
I am now in the throws of making a new tie rod from the steering box to the front wheels.
The existing one is bent in two directions,and the ball joints are warn, it looks like a botch job, definetaly not original, it might have been bent to fit.
Should the rod be stright or should it have a bend in it ??The front axil is the stright adjustable type, not that I will ever adjust.
I could not get the original type joints, so I have got some new ball type off a David Brown, going to weld a nut on both ends of a piece of 3/4" pipe and screw them on.

John,
I hope you haven't gotten too far into this project.
I have a '40 B like yours and my drag link is bent in two places as well. I recommend that you go to the image archive and look at some B pictures to see if they match yours. Try to find pictures of tractors with the adjustable front axle so you can be sure that you are getting good comparisons. I am pretty sure that the drag link should be bent like yours is. Replacing the worn out ends is a good idea to get the slop out of the steering.

mine is straight. what you got in mind should work. they did bend some of them in two locations to go around the cultivator brackes or weights if it had them mounted (by the bell housing).
