I thought I had a WC with a WD engine in it. We've been around n around with this before. No serial number on the pumpkin differential! The steering shaft and the gear shift have me puzzled. When I see pictures of WCs and WDs. the steering shaft looks different and mine may well be a retro of some sort. My shaft doesn't go the entire length of the right side, it drops down by the gear shift and from there it's down the left side. Plus my gear shift is at angle, and has an "elbow" right before it goes into the boot at the tranny. WC or WD? Would like to see more photos of the WC and WD. Send to me.

Sid and Tramway may very well be right. I also have a WF, and the steering does cross over to the left. It is situated in the middle of the tractor, not on the right like the WC, etc. Steering gearbox on mine is a Gemmer. Mounts above the torque tube, where the power lift would be on a WC. The gearshift lever does have a bend in it similar to the WC, but not identical- I've tried to switch mine with a lever from a parts WC and the bend is different. Sheet metal is the same as the WC, WD, since the WF is the standard version of the WC. Many parts interchange. Rear wheels are 11x28, cast centers. Front end is a fixed width wide front axle. Tractor sits lower to the ground than WC because the rear axle has a different drop casting. If yours is a WF, it's worth more than a WC.

Are the final drive castings on a WF different than a WC or just rotated forward?

Well this is just a wild guess but I suspect you might have something different. Let's do a little remembering and see what comes up. If I remember right the D-series had the steering shaft on the left. I think the D-14 had an angled gears shift lever than went kinda under the seat. Another tractor that comes to mind, that I suspect is a possability, is a WF. As I remember couldn't find any clear pictures) it has an angled gear shift lever similar to the WC. In the pictures I see a steering rod (like a tie rod instead of a shaft and it goes down the left side of the tractor. Also the WF sheet metal and radiator grill bear quite a bit of resemblance, if in fact they are not the same as the WC and WD. Like I say this is just a wild guess. And you gotta remember to tell us what you have, when you find out, or post some pictures and let us know.

Can't help much other then to tell you the WC and WD used the same engine just differant trannys and rear ends. The WD45 has a differant engine then either the WD or WC

Sounds like you may have an RC. They have hand brakes and a lever that you have to sqeeze by the shift lever ball to get it into reverse just like the WC. They are a WC framed tractor with a B engine. Look ahead of the grill. Is there a sheet metal plate between the grill and the steering housing between the frame rails? If so, more than likely it's an RC. They were built from 1939 to 1941. Supposedly 5516 built.

Forgot to mention that that steering shaft on an RC is just as described yours. Also look on the left side of the engine on the flange that bolts to the bell housing. There should be some numbers stamped there. That may help you figure out what you have. Are you sure that there are no numbers on the top of the differential right above the pumpkin?

Wrong on your comment regarding the steering shaft- the RC is the same setup as the WC, WD, WD45. I have all four of them, and there is none with a steering shaft crossing over to the left side of the tractor. RC is simply a WC frame with a C engine, plus the differential gears are a different ratio to accomodate the low power of the engine. Sales were poor on an under-powered tractor, and WWII conveniently provided an excuse to quit making them. I would really like to see some pictures of what this fellow has- suspect someone has jerry-rigged some orange iron.

Did any of the WC's have foot brakes? Or any of the WD's have hand brakes? I have never seen a WC without hand brakes, so that's what I would go by. If I'm wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected, but that's my $.02 worth.

Easy way to get good photos...do a google image search (www.google.com) for Allis WC or WD...also, they made an RC, which is rarer than the W's. Just some thoughts...
