Can someone tell me what type of oil goes in a 170 tranny? The service manual only mentions a special AC gear lube but not the weight of the lube. I've seen "Universal" Tractor tranny fluid in 5 gallon buckets at autoparts stores but wasn't sure if that was the correct fluid or not. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses guys. I don't recall there being a number. Can you buy the fluid in anything besides 5 gallon buckets?

If you take that number and go look at a bucket of universal fluid, you should find that number on the bucket it will be marked as to what specs it will meet. The universal fluid is what I use. It is also what the dealers sells me. Every brand of Universal that I have looked at meets the AC specs for my tractor anyway. I do not think you will find a weight of fluid like in the old transmission gear oil. Hope this helps.

Can't tell you from memory, but likely what the D17 had. All that is in the operator manual- not the service manual. I know that doesn't make the most sense, but everything the operator needs to know about 'servicing' the tractor is in the operator manual. Service should really be called a repair guide.
