Hello;

I have a 1951 Model B on which I have replace both rear grease seals. I Noticed that on the right rear there is a grease leak, but it only comes out after the tractor is parked after running it a few hours. I removed the wheel and found a shiny spot where the hub rubbed on the seal. I drove it in further. Is this the cure?
Also, how often should the rear drive oil be changed? Mine is pretty darn black.

pounding the seal in a little can not hurt. the inner ring the seal runs on could have grooves and cause some leaking in the future.--- also, the splines can be worn a little, letting the hub slide on further and then contact the seal. i have had the hub drag on the housing and actually have to grind 1/8 inch off the back of the hub so it would not hit.--- the oil is 90 wt gear lube. probably 60 years old. take the sheetmetal half moon pan off the bottom, clean it up, reinstall and add a couple cups of new gear lube. that would help. you can make your own gasket, or just use a good bead of RTV.
