Allis C motor froze up on me..was running last Oct. Poured about everything you can think of in the cylinders (except some Jack Daniels)...WD40, PB Blasters, Transmission fluid. Pulled it around with the truck and let out the clutch in 3rd...nothing(wheels would drag)...tried it with the tractor's starter...nothing. Could a valve rod be stuck in it's guide? Open for ideas.
Also tried hand cranking the bottom pulley..a couple of taps with a would block and hammer (bad mistake) suceeded in shearing the key off the bottom pulley....anyone have the size of that key?

I had water go around the muffler and down into the manifold on my C. We drug it around and eventually pulled the head off to find that it has surface rust on the sleaves that locked it up. We just honed them down and it is still going strong. If it has to sit outside let it cool and put plastic or something between the muffler and manifold, it always goes thru there on mine with a new muffler.

You can tap out your manifold with a 1 1/4" pipe tap then screw in a 1 1/4" pipe nipple, slide the mufflet pipe over the pipe nipple. You would have to expand the muffler pipe on the old muffler to make it fit. You can buy new mufflers that will slip over the pipe nipple. Most muffler shops will expand it for you.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened to my C. I'm in the process of building a barn so that both my Allis and Case can get in out of the rain and snow.

Ok a few question first. Before you filled the cylinders with tranny fluid etc, did you blow the cylinders out?? If you didn't then any water in the cylinders will be keeping the oils away from the rings. #2 when you tried to turn the engine over did you have the plugs out??? if you didn't you have a hyd lock which will cause you to not be able to turn it over. What I would do at this point is this. Blow the cylinders out, then heat some tranny fluid up till it just starts to boil. Then pour it in the cylinders hot. Then let it sit a few hours. Then try the starter but only use short fast taps on the starter button. If it doesn't brake free doing that you will need to pull the head off and try a few other ways. BTDT and I have 2 Cs in my shop right now that I'm working on and a 3rd one in the tractor yard for parts

Thanks old, no I didn't blow out the cylinders..how do you do that? through the plug holes?(I have the compressor)....and no I didn't have the plugs out..I thought the valves would relieve any pressure. I will try your approach before looking at the head. Ron

Yep blow it out the plug holes. Now think about it, an engine works by compression and on the compression stroke both valves are closed and theres no place for the oil to go. If you didn't bend a rod your got lucky. That emngine is probably freed up, PULL you plugs and try the starter and be sure to stand clear because oil will fly all over the place. I've taken a few oil showers before freeing up engines but I guess in the long run the shower was worth it

If it were my tractor at this point I would remove the valve cover and press each valve down one at a time to make sure one or more is not stuck. Stuck valves alone will slide the rear tires. If you have enough weight on the rear of the tractor you will end up with bent pust rods when pulling the tractor and popping the clutch. Best you can hope for now is you did not have enough traction to break or bend something. Again if it were my tractor and it AINT I would pull the head and get a real look at what I had to deal with. If it was running last fall you should not have a problem that would take all new parts unless they were needed last fall.

Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts and will try your suggestion and press the valves. The motor was runnning fine last Oct...didn't appear to have any problems... I think rain was getting down through the exhaust. We were on gravel when we were pulling so I'm hoping we didn't bend the push rods.

If the pulley and crank is simmilar to the B, the key is not square stock rather a half moon woodruff key. Try a hardware store for a new one.
