Don't know JS about AC tractors. Got a chance to buy a D10 for $1500. Located in NC. Is this a fair price? What should I look for? Any quirks or oddities I should be aware of? Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the comments. Got it home before the guy changed his mind. Purrs like a kitten, stays in all gears coming and going, the steering is as tight as a...well, and I will never wear the tire out in my lifetime. And, the sheet metal is good to boot. The only problem with it is one of the rear lift ram leaks.

The ram leak shouldn't be a difficult fix. Sounds like a seal or packing and it'll work like a champ. Just be sure to check the rod for rust or pitting before changing the seal. Rust/pits will cause the new seal to fail pretty quickly. The rod will need to be rechromed if it's pitted.

Great price, make sure you see if you can tow/pull to see if it stays in 2nd and 3rd gear. Popping out of gear is common with the D10-12's and is an expensive fix. Good luck!

Price is outstanding if it runs and drives good. If the engine is stuck or the transmission doesn't work, it may be high.

I'd look at how it starts, how it runs, is there smoke from the exhaust after running a minute or so. Are the fluids up to the correct level and appear correct (no water in oil or oil in antifreeze). When driving it are the gears quiet and does it stay in all gears both pulling and slowing down. And lastly, can you use the tires.

If it looks good on all counts, I'd be sure to have a trailer along to bring it home. Decent D-10's often sell for $3000.

If it is a good runner buy it before the seller changes his mind.
