I do not farm. I do not know if I am in the right forum for this question, but AC is all I have so....and this is long, but dang it I need an answer so I can SLEEP. My wife and her brother needed a tractor for some hay ground we leased for 7 years. Had to have a cab. I have recently bragged shamelessly about the AC 200 I found like new. We all have horses. So he has been working our 1st cutting of the year the last couple days. He called me on his cell to ask for some grease and a couple tools, because of a problem with a "conditioner" or something like. I was a businessman and believe in being prepared. Time is money and all that. So I said, "Look in the tool box". It's huge. I had gone to the farm store and talked to a couple older farmers who were there. In the box is a 20 foot tow chain, a complete set of wrenches, both socket and combination, all the way to 1-1/4 inch. A small grease gun, loaded, with a three pack of extra tubes, A crecent wrench. WD-40. A regular squirt oil can. Screwdrivers, pliers, several types. a small crowbar, hammer, a great selection of grade 8 bolts. A bunch of hitch pins, etc. that the farmers helped me pick out for a category 2 setup. All kinds of clips and retainers I don't know what for. Finished it all off with some wire in a roll, thought that was common(?) Even tossed in some black tape, Duct tape, electrical connectors, and a roll of electrical wire. He was impressed and I was so proud of myself. An hour later he calls and says the tractor won't run and they need me now. I am not a farmer, but am a mechanic. So I dash over fast, wondering if I had just blown 7 grand plus and not made the 1st cutting, and Ben and his buddy were laughing themselves silly. There was nothing wrong with the tractor. He said they had pulled a "Richard Petty" on me. I watch Nascar, but what in HE** did that mean? They won't tell me.

Sorry to be off topic here, but I finally found out. Seems King Richard was quite a sense of humor at times. A current owner or crew chief was racing years ago, and was a tad slow on a dirt track, Petty was there, and a friend. The guy asked for advice and Petty told him to dive into the corners a little faster. He put his car in the wall and totalled it. Richard then told him he was only joking, the cornering was at the limit to start with. Just a little joke.

I guess you need to be a NASCAR nut to know the answer. I sure haven't a clue.
