Does anyone know how the coil should be wired on the magneto? This the 6v internal coil. It runs now, I am trying to put kill switch on it. It has a red and black wire on the coil, Which should ground out to the stud bolt on mag? Please?

A Magneto creates it's own spark by magnetic field amplified by the coil. If your B is mag fired, there will not be any wiring connected to it unless it has a remote mag kill switch mounted up in the Ammeter panel. Earlier units had a grounding lever on the side of the mag housing which is pushed against the housing to ground the spark and shut down the engine. As years progressed, the mag kill switch was mounted in the Ammeter box near the driver. magnitos were common on tractors prior to them having batteries. the mag works by generating voltage in the coil and haveing an impulse to "snap" or fire the plug. in the late 50's many tractors changed over to distributor with an external coil and it needed to be connected to a battery to make it work.---- the kill swith on a mag does not disconnect the power, it shorts out the mag internal to ground.

Thanks, Yes it has a mag, but no power is going to it from battery,just a 6v to starter only, I thought the mag sent 6v to internal coil.Was a little fuzzy on what voltage went from mag to coil to be stepped up. Thanks,I will just put a wire from points to that stud to a grounded switch.

Here's a possibility. Lots of times when the mag's guts die, people just take a standard ignition coil matched to their battery votlage on the tractor and wire it up outside of the mag, and then wire it over and just use the condensor and points in the mag.. etc.. I've seen that many many times. Sometimes you have to get creative with the high tension wire feed points.. but it otherwise works ok.

If you hook up battery voltage to a mag you will fry it before you even get a foot away from the machine. The way a mag works is with a coil and a magnet. A lot of the old tractors with mags didn't ever have kill switches on them all you did to kill the engine was turn off the gas and let it run out of fuel.

From what your saying you don't have a mag. Mags don't have battery voltage going to them in any way shape or form. As far as a kill swithc for a mag you just set it up to short/ground out the points
