B with mag missing

I got a 'rebuilt' mag from Rick in Indiana cause my old B was breaking down. Now it runs great for about 20mins, then starts missing...and slowly gets worse. Did I get a bad coil? Could it be something else?

Depending on the mag, some of the earlier units came with the older style "tar-taped" coil. These coils after much age, would start to leak and ground themselves out on the inside of the mag housing especially as the tractor's temperature got higher, eventually shutting down the tractor. An easy way to check is to lift the lower cover on the mag and see if it does have the older style coil. They are troublesome if it is equipped with one. The fuel suggestions are great to, because they to cause the same type of conditions as you mentioned. I have had a similar problem with my B. Found out the breather hole in the gas cap was plugged.

make sure you got plenty of gas. common problme is crud in the gas tank, bowl,and line to the carb. should be a drain on the carb, see that it flows good.--- when it starts missing, can you wait a couple minutes then start, or dois it have to cool off. if you have to wait, it is probalby mag related. not necessary the coil, i cleaned point last month and had loose bushing on the shaft and taht was my problem.
