I"ve got an AC 5050 that is putting out a huge amount of blue smoke out the exhaust. Its also putting a good bit of smoke/exhaust out from under the hood. Its so bad you can"t run it too long before getting a big headache. Any suggestions of info is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the engine needs an overhaul. The blue smoke from the exhaust indicates oil burning caused by bad oil rings. The under the hood smoke is blow-by caused by bad compression rings. It isn't a simple or easy fix. And it is fairly expensive - from $500 if you do work yourself to $2000 if done by others. Sorry.

I know of another problem that would cause both oil burning and blow-by. If the tractor had set for a long time before you started it (years and years), the rings may be stuck. Others on this board have some ideas of how to unstick rings. I've never experienced the problem so never had to solve it.

If these symptoms came on slowly with frequent use, the rebuild is in order.

Sad thing is we just bought this less than a month ago, so I don't know if it came on gradually or not. I did notice that the oil level is overfull. They changed it before they brought it too us. We just havent had enough time to lower it. Is it possible that this has something to do with it?

I'd get that oil changed immediately. Look at the color of the oil. If it is milky light brown, it is an indication that water has gotten into the oil. First step is new oil. Then run it a bit and reevaluate. Check antifreezwe. Does it stay up at full with tractor use? If it does, news might be good. If oil level is a lot too high, the crankshaft will beat the oil into a froth and it won't lubricate properly. Check these things and come back here with results.

thanks, will check. We checked the oil on the dipstick...its a clear brown, doesn't appear to have water in it. Will check the coolant level next. Appreciate the suggestions
