I've got a WD with a problem. The thing runs fine without a load on it but as soon as I hook up it seems like it loses all power.I just went through and rebuilt the carb on it maybe I got the mixture set wrong or something, but also I really dont think the govenor works on it.If you cant tell I dont know a whole lot about the govenor so any advise would help.what should I look for or is there anything else I'm missing

Do not ignore a plugged air cleaner.

If it's not the govenor try checking the spark advance weights located under the plate (points etc.) in your distributor. If they are rusty or gummed up (not moving freely) it might be your problem. You will probably want to remove the distributor to get at things better.

Good luck,

Steve

First thing I would do is this. Take your finger and try to open up the trottle at the carb, if the govanor is working as it should you will feel the govanor try to slow the engine. Don't let it rev. to high when you do that. If it does as I say you probably need to adjust the carb some more or even open it back up again. Have you tried chokeing it when its doing that?? If chokeing it helps you have the carb set to lean or you missed some thing in the carb, which is east to do. I've been working on carbs for years and once in a while I will get one that gives me fits. I have one like that right now and its driveing me crazy

Thanks guys for the help I'll go out and give her another try.Hey carb guy where would be the ideal settings on the jets (if there is such a thing)The only starting setting I have are from the Marvel paper I got with the rebuild kit and they said to start at one full turn from the seat on both idle and power jets does this sound right. Thanks everybody for the help

Thats correct for the first start up. Then you need to adjust the main jet for power and smooth running. That could be ok right there or it may need to be opened or closed more every engine is differant so there no set rule to where it should be set.
