Is the vent hole in the gas cap plugged. Try running it for a while with the cap off and see if it makes any difference.

guys, thanks for all your in put but I have done about all you have suggested except take the tank off I have a good flow of gas when line is off the carb, have checked the needle and seat not sticking . I replaced the float, helped some, when it stops pulled the plug and very little gas would flow from the carb, could be the tank I have replaced the coil and points and condenser new plugs, wires are good ,switch ok. I think the tank will be off tomorrow I will post when I get it going, we have a ride this summer and I want it to do the whole 20 miles on its own not on the trailer thanks Buford

Well you said you have a good flow at the line going in to the carb but not out the bottom of the carb. Now is that when it died or is that when it has sat for awhile. You need to check both places. If you don't have good flow out the bottom of the carb make sure you still have good flow at the line. If you still have good flow at the line it has to be the carb. Not the tank. Is the float set correctly?? Is the needle valve in it have the little spring on it?? If it does do you have it on the right way?? The spring hooks to the float and pulls the needle down but if the spring isn't there the needle will stick and cause that type of problem also

old, you are probably on to something about the little spring at the needle, there wasn't one on the carb, that might be where my problem is. I have polished the sides of the needle and the seat, but it may still stick. I am going to the salvage yard near here and get a couple of old carbs and look for the spring. When it stops, no flow at carb drain. I think I will look at the spring. Thanks, Buford

Shoot for $15-20 you can buy a carb kit which will have new needle and seat plus th spring and also gaskets etc. You would probably be ahead going that way instead of tring to make old stuff work.

I agree with both old and Will. When it does stop, pull the plug outta the bottom of the carb. If the gas is flowin', you've got another problem elsewhere. If it's not flowin', you'll need to work on that tank. Likely your tank needs to be cleaned. Tim

I had this problem before with my tractor... I took my gas tank off, drained it, cleaned it, put it back... Worked like a charm!

Things have a way of getting into gas tanks, like grease rags, chaff, etc. Enough gas runs through after setting a while to get started but not enough flow to support continuous running. Needle sticking is a common problem. Usually can trouble shoot by tapping on side of carb. When it stops does it have spark? You can check by carrying a spare spark plug along and when it stops pull a plug wire, attach it to your spare plug, ground it to frame and spin motor - be careful. Use your clutch lock.

How do you know its running out of gas?? Have you pulled the drain plug when it quits?? First thing I would do is pull the drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas for about 5-10 minutes which means you need to rig up a way to catch the gas. If you have a good steady flow of gas then thats not the problem You may have a coil going bad, or even the ignition switch may be going bad.
