got a ca5773 serial # cr53256 pa. what year and can anyone tell me about a knock in the block? can it br fixed form the bottom and is it a big deal? can't really understand what there talking about in the book. thanx gary

You need to provide more information about the severety of the knock and any characteristics it may have..like does it "change" when the clutch is depressed..?? Are you sure it is not a mis-adjusted rocker tappet clearance..?? Many times the tappet surface of the rocker arms need to be reconditioned or you can"t get a proper valve adjustment.. It could be a wristpin or just a throw-out bearing... Depressing the clutch while running may change the sound, and if it does, it could indicate crankshaft end-play..a failed thrust bearing on a main... Give us more and we may be able to help more..!! drop the pan and check the rod caps. one might be loose. had that happen one time on an old chev that i had. bolt fell out, no damage done.
if all is tight, then check the mains, if ok, pull them down one at a time and check spacing with plastigage, .002 - .004 space needed. if too much space, remove a shim or two. .005 will not hurt any, but no larger.Bob

Most of the time a knock means you have a rod bearing bad. If the is so the you need to remove the engine and rebuild it. Most of the time the crank shaft needs to be taken to a machine shop and trued back up.
