Another battery cable question

I have a heavy duty battery cable for my WD but the clamp on the battery end is shot. Are those clamp-on ends a suitable replacement? I mean the kind where you strip off the insulation and bolt on the new one.

Go with Bob's way. It looks professional and makes the best connection which is what you need to take advantage of a good cable.

Of you are not into putting the ends on yourself, a local battery shop will put them on at an affordable price.

Would you use acid core or rosin core solder? Also is soldering paste the same as flux?

A REAL auto supply store will have tinned brass cable ends.

Put a little soldering flux on the cable, insert it into the end, heat the cable end with a propane torch, and flow solder into it.

That makes a WAY BETTER connection than those shade-tree mechanic clamp on ends that invariably corrode and make poor contact after a year or two.

Let it cool, and tidy it up a bit with red or black heat-shrink tubing, available along with the cable ends.

I replaced all of these connectors with brass ones on my 2 battery John Deere 510 last year and they work much better.

yeah they work fine...IF you can find the brass replacement end theyre better but the lead type will work too.
