I have just posted a picture on the Allis Chalmers photo list.
If anyone can help identify it we would appreciate an email.
Has 6v starter and 12v generator..6v battery cranks and starts it..runs fine.
Seats and rear guards modified..non original.
Serial No LOOKS like ECCS40 but is very very faint.
Would this have originally been 12V or 6v?

Thanks for all the help guys...very quick.
Consensus of opinion seems to be IB.
Would this have been 6v originally? Starter is 6v and seems original.

I heard there were some IBs WITHOUT the channel iron frame, but i"ve never seen one. I"m inclined to agree with you, John. As I recall, the English version of the B had a "40" somewhere in it"s name; which seems to fit the serial number given. Anyway, it"s a nifty lookin" tractor!

I agree with Dairyman. It is an IB. The fenders are not stock. The first IB sold in 1939 according to one source. Initially they were numbered with the B. The IB got its own serial number list in 1946. The last was made in 1954. After 1946, the quantity produced was about 2400. Don't know how many were made between 1939 and 1945.

I think your number is a casting number. I believe the serial is on the shift lever tower.
