I removed the distributer housing on my 53 WD during painting. I probably turned the governor shaft because I am having trouble with starting and running. I assume that I must relocate the position of the rotor within the distributer. The wd manual I have states to install rotor pointing opposite primary lead terminal. The WD45 manual that came with the tractor states to install rotor pointing toward primary lead terminal. This WD was one of the last before conversion to WD45. Should rotor point toward lead terminal?

Old, Thanks for your advice. It makes sense that any distributer cap lug would work as long as #1 plug wire lines up. My other problem is that when I think the piston is TDC, the flywheel mark always lines up with the F mark. The following mark on flywheel has no markings. Am I correct to assume the unlabeled notch is the TDC mark. I can get the motor to run roughly if I use F marked notch as TDC but tractor will not start if set on unlabeled notch. Any ideas?

Are you sure you have the fireing order right. The first time I droped the distutor in my WD I had it 180 which is a east fix. fire order is 1,2,4,3 and if you have it off it may run but not the way it should run.

Doesn't really matter which way its turned as long as you have the fireing order correct. The way I did it on the WD I have which didn't have a disturtor on it when I got it was. I got the #1 cylinder to TDC and droped the disturtor in and then hooked up the plug wires to get the right fireing order. Nice thing is you can turn them all the way around as long as the wires are long enough.
