I have an Allis Chalmers CA and I have a problem with the clutch in the right rear axle. When the tractor has to pull, the clutch starts slipping. Especially when I used the handclutch before.

Is it possible to adjust it from the outside?

There is no real adjustment for making the clutch tighter, the only provision for adjusting is the release gap. That being said it maybe that someone in the past has adjusted the clutch for release and you might have a little engaging adjustment (I stress a little). I have never been able to adjust a slipping CA hand clutch sucessfully. You probably need new pressure plate springs and to have your clutch disk relined (relining is much cheaper that purchasing new) ask around at shops for someone who does this in your area.

It may also be possible that your clutch disk is soaked with oil from leaking oil seals. If that is the case, you are also facing a good cleaning and clutch relining.

But to adjust your hand clutch you remove the two cap screws visable in the handle opening, then rotate the collar on the adjusting hub, if memory serves me right, spinning it clock-wise would make it tighter, and spinning counter-clock-wise would help release.

Look in the hole in the axle housing where the clutch lever comes out. in front of the lever, with a light, there is a big slot screw adjustment. It takes a big screw driver
