D15 Engine Size

What is the engine size of a D15? How much did they weigh? Did many have a 3point lift? How much would a nice clean original D15 run? Did they all have a HiLo transmission? Did they have any common problems? I am thinking of getting one but do not know much about them. I have a WD now. Would appreciate any info from you A/C guru's! Thanks.

hi. back in the early seventies an old A-C mechanic at a long time A-C dealership told me that A-C had the new WD-45 trany ready before the WD-45 engine was ready to go,so they put the 45 trany in the last WD's. they didn't put the WD engine in the WD-45.

Thanks for the info, you guys gave me what I was looking for. I was aware that some of these jumped out of 3rd gear when going downhill. I think that can be fixed but is likely expensive. I am going to a sale that has one and I will let you know if I get it. Most of my tractors are 2plow size and a little smaller. I like that size since I don't use them for much of anything. My WD is actually a WD45 with a WD engine. The year they changed these over, they had a surplus of WD engines and made the first 45's using these engines. They have .5in less stroke but the unit has the good helical quiet gearing of the 45's. I like it a lot.

Wayne, technically, your tractor is a WD. The story is that they ran out of WD transmissions and finished off the WD with WD-45 transmissions rather than starting another production run of the old transmission.

Nebraska says the D-15 weighed 4025#. The WD weighed 3721# and the WD-45 weighed 3955#. These weights are from the Nebraska tests.

The blue book retail is over $3000. Trade-in is about $2000. The Series II had a factory 3 point. After market three points are available or you can build your own 3 point for about $150.

Pull power on the D15 Series II was about the same as a WD-45. It does have the High-Low range power director.

Only negative that I am aware of is that the transmission on certain tractors will not stay in either second or third when pulling or going down hill. Not many were like this but there are some around. I have 16 tractors and my D-14 (nearly the same as a D-15) is my favorite tractor. It is real maneuverable, runs like a champ and it is not too large but still has good power.

series 1 had the 149 cubie inch motor, series 11 went to 160 inch. the diesel was a 175 inch motor. i think the 15 was basically same size as the WD in weight, probably about 40 HP.
