Leaking Carb

I just finished rebuilding a Zenith Carb 10981 for my 1953 WD. Carb operates (doesn't work) the same as before rebuild. After setting for a few hours, the tractor starts and will run if choke is feathered. Runs a few minutes and quits. Gas then drains from port in bottom of carb. Tractor will not start again until carb dries out. Spark plugs are dry.

I have rechecked the float setting (1-5/32) and feel I did a through cleaning of the carb during rebuild. Is it time for a new carb or have I overlooked something?

Also shake the float and listen for gas in the float body. A small pin hole will let gas seep in and weight it down allowing too much gas in bowel. This is a commom problem with older tractors.

assuming you have good gas, and no crud in the tank, i'd check the carb body. if this is the type with a horshoe shape float, lay some emery cloth on a piece of flat glass. run the float body (where the gasket goes) over the glass to try to get it completely flat. years of overtightening the throttle body to float body screws warp it, allowing gas to run into the throat. you may need a new carb, ive had to do that on carbs only a couple years old.
