Well, I went back to the tractor this afternoon and finally found the serial number, it was painted over pretty good. WD70780, which from the serial number listing makes it the last part of 1949. And I scraped a lot of gunk off the engine and it does have that plate, just could not see the edges of it before. It does not have a Marvel Schrebler carb on it. It has a Zenith. On the underside of the part where the choke is it is marked 3-63. Maybe the date it was made? There is an aluminum tag on the top that has these numbers: 213348 and under that is 9707C. Other than being incredibly dirty and has rust in the bowl, it looks rebuildable if I can find a kit for it. Any clues where I would look? Thanks for all the feedback and esp for the picture of the controls, that will help a lot. The picture shows a magneto switch, would this have a magneto and electric start at the same time or on this machine, that should be the ignition switch? Once we get it running and see how the stuff works will tell us if we want to really put it back in decent shape. Steering wheel now is from a Chevy pickup complete with a non working horn button. Are parts hard to come by for this tractor?

You can have a magneto and electric start. Check on the right side of the engine (the opposite side from the carb.). The magneto should say Fairbanks Morse on the case and should have a cap and wires similar to a normal distributor. Sorry if you already know all of this.

Parts are pretty easy to find. As far as the mag thing it could have a mag and eletric start of it could have a dist. also I have seen them both ways. I have 2 WDs, 1 WD45 and a WC speed patrol and one of the four is a parts tractor so I may even have some parts you might need

i have a 52 wd allis i just bought. It has a Zenith carb on it and it works just fine. the dearlership where i bought said most any part was still available. I even seen new rebuild kits for sale on ebay,. actually there are a lot of parts on ebay for your tractor. Mine also has the magneto switch. and yes your prob has a magneto and electric start as mine does. the other switch in the switch box if there is one was for lights. good luck.
