I have the silliest question. Where do you add oil on an AC 170 (gas)? The only obvious spot also has the distributor cap and couple of hoses attached to the housing. I see a cap, but froze in my tracks because something didn't look right. Can anyone help my fuzzy ol' brain??

Since the hood isn't easy to remove on the 170, the oil fill is located on the distributor housing like the WD and WD45. It is a flat knurled cap.

Thank you both! Eldon, you are absolutely right. I was surprised by the set up, but decided there was no alternative way of doing it. Oil added successfully!

A sneak attack by Multiple Sclerosis knocked me out of my farming career a couple years ago. I suddenly had an offer to sell this faithful old tactor, and wanted to make sure everything was in good shape.

I appreciate your help! All is well.

On the D17, the oil filler is located under the hood, on top of the valve cover. Open the right side hood panel. Likely the 170 is the same. You really need an operator manual.
