I have a WD which sat next to my grandmas house for at least twenty years before my dad and I carted it home and messed with it for a couple more years, we dumped a little kerosene in each cylinder and then rock it every so often to try and free it. He has since passed away but I kept up the routine, recently adding some oil and thinking to try the belt pulley today, it turned over! I drained a bunch of water oil and gunk out of the oil pan and filled it back up, and opened the stopcok on the carb and let out the nasty old gas. What do you guys suggest I do now? Any precautions I should know about before putting on a battery? Actually I don't even know if it's pos or neg ground, it has an alternator, so maybe neg? Anyway, I don't know how to safely proceed but I am amazed that it turned over, I think maybe the recent cold snap and then fast warmup here in central NY helped the oil get by the pistons as they expanded and contracted. Anyway any advice on how to hook up the batt and get her going would be very much appreciated, Thanks Eric

You might want to at least pull the valve cover and make sure they are all operating when you turn over by hand without the plugs installed.

I would put in a new set of points and condenser, and maybe hot wire it the first time you try to start it. New plugs would also be a good idea. I just got a WD up and running today my self.

Rich, just had to bug you about posting pictures on here , since someone I know keeps after me about some sort of hydraulic pump..:>)

I'm going to an auction tomorrow to see if maybe an Allis CA will jump on my trailer. I have a good looking "winch" on my trailer, maybe that will intice it to jump, what do ya think?
I am a little leary of CA as motor is stuck and the dipstick is out of the differintial, and it will not roll even out of gear. :>(

We'll see if the price is right. :>(

I've only taken that one picture I sent you of it. I started working on it today, it had no distutor in it or coil. I drop in one I had from a bad engine hooked all the wires up and hooked up my staring tank and it fired right up. Then I drive it in the shop and pulled the engine out. The PTO huseing area of it is broken and I have another WD that was a parts tractor that will soon have that engine sitting in it.

Forgot you said it had a alternator on it. If so, it is negative ground.

If it is set up like original,it is positive ground,hook up the pos cable first and just touch the neg cable to top of battery and make sure it doesn"t spark in case you have a short somewhere in the wiring first. Put some gas in it and crank it over and see if it fires. If not,pull a plug and see if it is wet meaning you are getting gas(the carb may need to be cleaned if it has been sitting a while). If you are getting gas,check for spark because you could have ignition issues. Make sure plug wires and plugs are good also. Good Luck
