Since you say it runs to the field terminal on the generator, I would guess that means that you have a generator and a cutoff relay on the charging circuit. This resistor has nothing to do with the lights. It is designed to limit field current on the generator and is used when the switch is pulled out to the first position. It is not used when the switch is pushed in totally or pulled out totally (the lights on position). If you can't find the exact replacement, you'll need to add a regulator to the circuit which will control the field current (which controls the voltage). If the generator doesn't work and you don't care, you can just tape the wire off. If you want to use the generator to charge your 6 volt battery, determine if it is a grounded field or a voltage field. To do this (with the tractor running), connect the field to full battery voltage and observe if the battery is charging. If it does, you need a regulator that provides voltage on the field terminal. If it does not charge with voltage, try grounding the field terminal. If it charges with the field grounded, you need a regulator that grounds the field. Early Ford regulators provide a Ground - 9N. the newer Fords have the voltage providing regulators - 600. Sorry, I haven't checked this out on my Allis tractors yet.
